There are likely to be relatively few opportunities to increase the capacity of our roads so the need to get the most out of the current network is extremely important.
Intelligent transport systems aim to make the operation of the road network responsive to traffic conditions by giving drivers live information to help them avoid congestion. Similar systems can also be used to give bus passengers live timetable information to tell them when the next bus is going to arrive.
Other more conventional ways of giving people better information will also be an important part of our strategy. We’ll therefore be improving printed public transport information such as timetables and producing information for pedestrians and cyclists to support new or underused bus, cycle, or pedestrian routes.
Other schemes:
- School and workplace travel plans development
- Cycle links
- Pedestrian crossings
