network developmentmarcham bypass

The A415 through Marcham narrows at points to just 5.3 metres (too narrow for two lorries to pass) and follows a series of sharp, blind bends. Residential properties front straight onto the road with little or no pavement.

There are frequent blockages of the road when lorries find they cannot pass each other. Damage to properties from passing vehicles is also a regular problem. At Frilford, to the west of Marcham, a staggered traffic signal controlled crossroads is the cause of considerable peak time congestion.

To tackle these problems, we’re proposing to build a 3 km, 7.3 metre wide single carriageway bypass to the south of Marcham, with a new roundabout to replace the staggered junction with the A338 at Frilford. Construction of the scheme could start in 2007/08, if funding becomes available.
